Thanksgiving

I have come to the conclusion that Thanksgiving is the neglected middle child of Holidays...and it makes me sad. You would think that in a country with such a high obesity rate we would THRIVE on a holiday that a large part of its purpose is to EAT whatever you want and as MUCH as you want and not have anyone judge you for it. Am I right?!

I love Thanksgiving. I get slightly annoyed when Radio Stations start paying Christmas Music on November 1st. Someone REALLY should invent Thanksgiving Music and make millions!

Yesterday I went to Michaels to try to find something to hang on my door to replace my Halloween Wreath...all they had was a little teeny tiny display w/ the leftover Halloween stuff that didn't sell. Really?? I was disappointed. I left without buying anything and went to Hobby Lobby instead. They weren't much better but at least had an aisle and a half dedicated to Thanksgiving. The rest of their holiday aisles were Christmas...but they have at least an aisle or two of Christmas stuff up all year so I was ok with life at this point.

I feel holidays should read as follows (size=emphasis, color is not important other than to brighten up the text):

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas...don't get me wrong. I have more Christmas decor than anything else in my house and the spirit of the season and what it's all about is incredibly wonderful and very comforting. I'm just of the belief that Thanksgiving is just as important, to remember what we have in life and to be grateful for it. So often we take the simple things for granted, I know I do it all the time.

I'm super excited for Christmas every year but I refuse to forget about Thanksgiving. It needs its turn too.

Drum Roll Please....

Here's the finished product as promised! Thanks to Michael's for the Halloween extras. You would think that they would have a lot of decorations for Halloween out but the only had half an aisle. There was more Christmas stuff out than Halloween. I was disappointed...but I still got the job done.

I think it turned out cute! I told Tyler I want to have/make a wreath for every month/holiday of the year. The only two months I could think of that don't have major holidays in them are April (unless Easter falls in April, which next year it doesn't) and September, unless I'm missing one. Here's what we came up with:

January: New Years
February: Valentine's Day
March: St. Patrick's Day/Easter
April: Sometimes Easter...otherwise just a Spring Wreath
May: Mother's Day
June: Father's Day
July: 4th of July/24th of July
August: Back to School (not really a holiday I know but it works)
September: Nothing...but I'm thinking a Fall Wreath w/ leaves would work
October: Halloween (check!)
November: Thanksgiving (next project)
December: Christmas (also check!)

Did I miss one or do you have any ideas for wreaths?

Another attempt at being crafty...

Alright I have a confession to make...it's Halloween month and I have ZERO decorations, now Christmas I am VERY well prepared. I have a WHOLE Rubbermaid container dedicated to Christmas...but Halloween...nothing. So to alleviate this problem I decided I would make a Halloween wreath for my door. I chose to make one of those Tulle Wreaths that are all over Pinterest. It was easy, but rather tedious. Between cutting the tulle and then tying it around the form, I got bored and had to enlist Tyler to help me. Anyway, it's still a work in progress, it needs some Halloween embellishments like ghosts/pumpkins/witches etc. but here's how it looks so far. I think it's way cute already! I'm quite proud...

I'll try to remember to post the finished product! What do you think so far?

Random Happenings

I haven't done an update on our lives for a while...especially with photos, so here you are photos of what we've been up to the last little while.

Photos from my Birthday that I said I would post MONTHS ago (my B-day was in July...)

Elephants! Two adults and a baby. So cute!

 Tyler sittin' in a log.

Both of us sittin' in a log...aww...

Chillin' on the back of a Seal.

Over Labor Day we went up to my family's cabin in the Uintas. It was a good time. All of my family was there.

Braylee ready for a 4-wheeler ride!

Dain got his fingers pinched...he's not too happy about it either.

Hunter climbing the woodpile

Tyler's having a wonderful time...can ya tell?

Braylee likes to climb stairs.

Dain is happy now. My parents, Addy, and Shaunee in the background.

I don't know why Hunter decided to lay down on the porch...

Now Dain's ready for another ride!

Over the summer we got some shelves from Tyler's mom that she wasn't using anymore. When we got them they were plain wood...not even sanded or anything. There are 2 of them and this is the one we have finished so far. When we finish them both I plan to have a Before and After post featuring these wonderful shelves, but here's the Sneak Peek!

Since it's Fall and the leaves are changing nicely we decided to go for a drive up to the Bear Lake Overlook. I took some pictures to document.

Aren't we just the cutest! ;)

Anyway, that's about all that we've been up to. We have fun.

My attempt at being Crafty...

So I got a sewing machine for Christmas and haven't really done anything with it. Today I was browsing Pinterest and I pinned a few skirt patterns. I found one for a Maxi Skirt, and it is SUPER easy! So I thought I'd give it a try. Now let me tell you...I haven't really sewn anything without help since like 9th grade...and the hardest thing we did then was pajama pants...so I was a little nervous how this would work out. The whole thing took me about two hours (see really easy!) from fabric pieces to pretty much finished project.

The blue from the waist band is under the yellow. I had to do that cuz the yellow fabric was see-through. Next time I do this I'm going to tweak a few things, but for a first attempt I'd say it's pretty awesome! I just have to touch up the bottom and it's done! Pretty cute, eh?

THIS is the tutorial I used for the skirt. It has a link for the waist band. Just make sure that you sew it on the right way...unlike I did the first time. Don't worry I didn't get too far before I realized I messed it up. :)

August 2, 2012

That's right I feel cool!

So Tyler's sister Charity wrote a book! It was published! It hit shelves everywhere on July 31st!

I feel cool...I can say I personally know a published author! :) The book is called Ten Girls to Watch, we bought a copy at Hastings last night and I'm already to chapter 3. So far it's really good. I can hear Charity's voice in it and it's kinda cool. I encourage all of you to read it! You can get it at any bookstore (probably, I don't know for sure), it's on Amazon.com and Walmart.com, and it's available for Kindle (I believe...)

July 19, 2012

My 24th Birthday.

Tuesday July 17th was my birthday. I'm now 24 years old. :) Good times.

For the occasion we spent a couple days in Salt Lake. We went to Hogle Zoo with our friends Miquette and Jon. It was fun (pictures are on my camera at home...I'll post them later). I don't know if I'll be able to go to Willow Park Zoo anymore...it's lame compared to the Hogle Zoo. After the zoo we went to Hire's Big H for some Root Beer Floats. Super tasty. After that Miquette and Jon had to leave for a bridal shower or something. Anyway, me and Tyler decided we would go to The Gateway and find somewhere to eat dinner, but this was only like an hour after the biggest RB Float I have ever eaten on my own in my life, so I wasn't super hungry, but still we wanted real food in our bellies. We walked around for awhile hoping to work off the floats a little, it worked fairly well. We went to dinner at Biaggi's, it's an Italian place kinda kitty corner to the movie theater. It was good. I had a salad mostly cuz I wasn't that hungry and because in an effort to get rid of some extra weight (as mentioned in last post. Salad's are supposed to be healthy, right?) I figured a salad would be a good idea. It was really tasty. Tyler had Parmesan chicken with some pasta, he let me taste it and it was really good too. After dinner we went to Dick's sporting goods and I got some exercise clothes and Tyler got him some BRIGHT ORANGE running shoes. Seriously they are quite blinding. It's awesome. Once we had enough of walking around for one day we drove out to Tyler's dad's house in Tooele to spend the night. We spent about an hour or so just chatting and then we finally got to sleep. I was super tired from walking and being in the sun all day.

The next day we got up, ate breakfast, got our stuff together and went back to SL to visit City Creek. We hadn't been there yet since it opened and wanted to check it out. It's pretty sweet...the stores there are a little out of my price range though. I will say we found success at H&M though. I found this cute gray dress that was modest. It's knee-length and has a higher neck line than the shirt I was wearing at the time. The only immodest thing about it is that it doesn't have sleeves, so I'll have to wear a shirt underneath. That's fine I usually layer anyway so no big deal. While we were at H&M we thought we would see what Tyler's brother, Levi, and my brother, Andy, were doing for lunch. They both work at Zion's which is just on the corner accross from City Creek. Turns out they were planning on taking lunch about the same time so we asked if they wanted to meet up with us for a bit. It was fun to see them. Andy's wife and kids were meeting him for lunch too so we got to see them also. That was exciting. After lunch we just wandered in and out of stores finding cute things that of course were way too expensive for us. Once we had seen just about everything we got in the car and drove home. :)

It was a fun couple of days, but it made it really hard to get up and come to work today. I really wanted to stay home in my bed...

OH I almost forgot! I ordered me some running shoes from Nike. I would have bought some at Dick's when Tyler got his but they didn't have any that were really bright or cool looking. So when we got home last night I got online and customized a pair for me (that made them more...but it's fine, I hope.) I'm super excited for them to come!

The pic is kinda small...sorry. It's the image from the confirmation email. But aren't they AWESOME! Now niether of us will get lost while we're running. I also put a custom thing on the tongue where the logo usually is. The right shoe says LEFT and the left shoe says RIGHT. Tyler's idea and I thought it was funny, so I did it. Pretty great, right? :) They are Free Run 3's with Nike+, which means I can track my running/biking/anything else I do with my phone! That will make it easier to put it into Myfitnesspal...when I remember to use it. I hate guessing when I exercise...I feel it's never accurate.
Anyway, that was my birthday excitement. It was an epic time. :) Loved it.

July 13, 2012

Followers...I need your help. :)

Alright friends (like 4 of you that read this) I need your help.

Tyler and I have decided that we are getting chunky and we don't like it. SO we are going to do something about it. I've been trying for months to get a solid routine down so I can get back to my pre-marriage weight, but I'll do great for about a week (if that) and then I quickly lose what little motivation I had and stop. I think a lot of my problems stem from the fact that I've never had to work to stay skinny...I just always was, so now that I'm not I don't know what to do to get back to what I was. Now I'm not saying that I'm so overweight that I'm going to drop dead of a heart attack at any moment, I'm just heavier than I would like to be. That's fair right? :) Anyway, I'm posting this so that now you guys know and maybe that will be my motivation to keep things going because more people know than just me and Tyler.

Let's go back a few years (OK...it's like 6, whatever). This is me my Senior Year of High School at a fabulous 105-ish pounds.

Yes it's a dance pic...that was my life then. :) Don't I look good? ;) OK enough...moving on.

Next life event. This is one of mine and Tyler's engagement photos...about 5 years after the above photo.

Here I'm probably around 110-ish, maybe 115. (Like I said I've never had weight issues so I never weighed myself.)

Ok now we come to the depressing photo of me now...ugh. I'm kinda nervous posting these in such a public place...but it must be done. :) Alright...here we go...please still be my friend...

Please ignore my dirty bathroom... :)

This is me today. (I literally took this like 10 minutes ago) I'm approximately 145 lbs! Pretty gross right!

So in a little over a year since the engagement photos I've somehow put on about 30-35 lbs! This is the HEAVIEST I have been in my ENTIRE LIFE! I'm disappointed in myself for letting it happen, really... I can blame birth control somewhat cuz it does crazy things to you and makes gaining weight easier and losing it harder, BUT that's not the entire reason. I know I don't eat as healthy as I probably should and I don't exercise like I used to. (Seriously...my Senior Year of high school I was at the dance studio for a total of 11 hours a week, and that doesn't include competitions, performances, dress rehearsals, or the dance classes I was taking at school at the time either. That's strictly DANCE CLASS and that's it. That's a lot!)

To help keep me motivated (hopefully) I've come up with a goal... I have a super cute pair of jeans that are a size 3/4 that I bought myself about 2 or 3 years ago. When I go back to school in January those are the jeans I want to wear on the first day! Plus I have some skinny jeans that I want to wear again too.

That would be about 30-35 pounds in about 6 months. Think I can do it?

Please, please, PLEASE leave comments if you have any suggestions or ideas for me and Tyler to keep at this.

What do I do now??

I'm going to warn you now...this post may not have a happy tone, mostly because I am not in a happy mood. You will understand by the end.

A little background: I started my job in Ogden in July 2007, got my Level 5 in 2008, I transferred to Cache Valley in May 2009, and then moved to my current branch in June 2010. Ok I think that's good enough background. In short, I've been at my job for 5 years and my last "promotion" was in 2008.

I've applied for promotions in the past (since my Level 5 in 08), each time going in with more experience than the time before. Well about a week ago another Lead Teller position opened up. Of course I applied right away. I had high hopes for this one...I have more Lending experience than I ever had before, I have plenty of interviewing experience, and I certainly know my job. I felt I had done everything I could to be ready for this and be the best choice. So I was confident that I would get this one. Did I mention that this would be the 6th Lead position I've applied for? Yeah you read right...that is a 6. Six applications...and now...six rejections.

That's right, I didn't get this one either. So now I'm faced with a decision...do I stick around and wait for #7 to open up (if it even does) or do I move on with my life and look for something else?

Input would be nice. :)

To put it lightly I kinda feel like the fat kid getting picked last in Gym Class.

I'm frustrated...wouldn't you be?!

June 13, 2012

So I've decided...

A few things. #1 I should be a better blogger, even if it's about nothing in particular. #2 Me and school are not friends.

Let's start with #1 I thought I'd share some random things about myself that most of you probably don't know. Here goes:

  • I hate fried eggs with runny yolks.
  • My favorite color is red and really anything bright.
  • I have terrible vision, like REALLY bad, but I hate wearing my glasses. Contacts all the way my friend.
  • I'm a nerd. I play video games (mostly Mario), I watch Star Trek Voyager (and like it), and I've seen the original Star Wars trilogy several times. Most of these are accentuated by the fact that I married a HUGE nerd. It's fine, I love him!
  • I don't like to study but still expect to get good grades.
  • I'm stubborn
  • I'm easily annoyed.
  • I hate doing all the things that are expected of a perfect wife, cooking, cleaning, laundry, doing dishes, etc. BUT I still do them anyway cuz I have to (and a lot of coercing by Tyler) and I want to be a good wife.
  • It drives me a little crazy when Tyler leaves his dirty socks in the living room even though I do the same thing sometimes... :)
  • I love having a clean house...but I don't want to be the one to clean it.
  • We don't make our bed unless we just washed the sheets.
  • It's a lot easier to tell Tyler to not spend money than it is to tell myself.
  • I miss my Dancer Abs, but have zero motivation to get them back...I'm open to suggestions.
  • I have a bad shoulder. It'll probably have to be taken care of some day.
Is that enough or do you want more? Well you might get some in future random posts.

Now for #2. I love Utah State and I love going to school and learning don't get me wrong, but school is not being nice to me right now. Remember my little freak out about not getting into Huntsman School of Business because USU doesn't know how to round? Yeah still upset about that. Anyway, I'm taking an internship class over the summer that's giving me 6 credits, an easy A, AND the best part my job counts for it! Great right! I know. So I'll apply for Huntsman for fall. I should get in this time. Downer though half of my classes are already full and waitlisting business classes is the biggest pain in all the world (pretty sure I've blogged about that too) and the classes that are full are prereqs for all my other classes...lame! My options at this point are try waitlisting and go through that stress again and run the risk of not getting in and add another semester until I graduate, take half credits and then add and extra semester until I graduate, or just not take classes at all and add an extra semester until I graduate. I'm taking the last one. So no school for me this fall. I'm kind of excited about it cuz it will save me stress but I'm sad at the same time cuz I already feel like I'm going to be in school forever. A secondary thought to being sad about taking an extra semester for school...Tyler and I have agreed that we won't even BEGIN to THINK about starting a family until I'm done with school and now having an extra semester prolongs that even more. (Don't worry guys I'm not baby hungry! Not even a little bit! But I do want to be a mom someday, and I'm a VERY impatient person.)

So yeah that's the plan right now. Usually I would cringe at the thought of taking a semester off from school...but I'm surprisingly ok with this plan. I firmly believe there's a reason I need to not be in school this fall. I don't know what that reason is but I'm 100% certain that The Big Man Upstairs knows full well what He's doing and that this is the right move for me right now. He'll tell me the reason when it's time for me to hear it.

Anniversary Pictures!

So here's some pictures from our trip to Park City for our 1 year anniversary. :) I hope you enjoy them.

The jetted tub! Super nice!

I had to stand in the tub to get this shot but this is the rest of the bathroom. It was HUGE!

Why yes we did have a full kitchen in our hotel room. That was super nice. :)

And this is the living room area of our hotel room

Our King size bed. It was SO comfortable.

How many hotels have you seen that have a washer and dryer in the room?? Oh right, fancy ones. ;)

This is outside the hotel while waiting for valet to bring our car around.

Olympic mascots at the Olympic Park.

Olympic Pins! There's a ton! There was a list on the wall next to this of specific pins to find. It was fun.

We went exploring on Main Street and there's a ski lift right at the bottom of the hill. How cool is that?

One Year!

So I can't believ we've been married for a year already! It's pretty much been the greatest year of my life. :) We spent our anniversary weekend in Park City. It was AWESOME! It was so relaxing to be away from work, school, and just everything! We hung out in our hotel room, which was beautiful by the way, chilled in the hot tub, swam in the pool, wandered up and down Main Street, and went to the outlets! Cool story at the outlets. We stopped in all the outlets that struck our fancy, one of which being Abercrombie and Fitch. Now I know what you're thinking we're poor college student newly weds, we can't afford anything at A&F...we were of the same mind set, but we thought "why not..." So we went in just to look around. Immediately we saw a table full of jeans that were marked $20!!!! Yeah we were shocked! So we miraculously found some in Tyler's size. We went to checkout and the cashier rung them up....$12!!! Yeah I looked at the original price tag on the pants and it said $80! We totally got a pair of $80 jeans for $12. Talk about bargain shopping! Yeah we were totally psyched. Anyway, down side to the weekend...neither of us remembered a camera... :( BUT I took lots of pictures with my phone, so they're all on there but I will post them later. It was a wonderful weekend and I didn't want to come home and go back to work... :( but such is life. Ya do whatcha gotta do.

May 7, 2012

School=Death!

So remember my post about how I'd be getting into Huntsman School of Business soon? Well, that might not be the case anymore. I got my grades back for this semester and according to my transcript I have a 2.66 GPA (I have bad grades I know...) and I need a 2.67 to get accepted. I'm a little bummed about it. But get this, the way USU calculates its GPA is to take the Quality Points and divide it by how many credits you've passed. I have 237.30 quality points and I've passed 89 credits. So if I do the math and round to 3 decimal places, 237.30/89=2.666. I don't know about everyone else but I learned in about 1st grade that when you round if the last number is higher than 5 then you round up. Therefore, I really DO have a 2.67. Basically I'm not getting accepted (which I don't really know for SURE but with my luck I won't) on a technicality. I'm super annoyed... I'm going to talk to an advisor tomorrow and see what I can do, and I did register for an internship class that I'm hoping I can use my job for since I'm there anyway. I'm just waiting on approval for that one. But I really don't want to get rejected just because Utah State can't round like they should! This is the second time I've had to jump through hoops for the stupid School of Business. They are not being nice to me...

April 19, 2012

I can't believe it!

As of today I've been married to the greatest man on the face of the planet for 11 months! I can't believe it's almost been a year already. Time sure does fly! :) It has been a fabulous 11 months. I couldn't have asked for better. Now we just have to get through about a week more of school and then finals and we can start on our fun summer! First thing on the list, a much needed vacation to Park City for our anniversary! I'm super excited. :) We made a list the other day of all the fun things we want to do over the summer. I hope we can do them all. If we do it's going to be a great summer!

March 22, 2012

Fabulous News!!!

So yesterday on my way home from school I got an email from the advising office saying that applications for Huntsman School of Business are due April 1st. I knew the deadline was coming up but I wasn't planning on applying yet because I don't quite meet requirements yet, I have GPA issues. They're getting better and it will be where it needs to be by the end of this semester. In the email it said that the applications aren't processed until after grades are posted for the current semester. Glimmer of light!!! I emailed my advisor right away and asked her if I should still apply since the applications aren't processed until the end of the semester and my low GPA will be higher and I have all the classes done. She said go ahead because the end of semester GPA is all they will see! HAPPY DAY!!! It makes my plan that I have worked out until graduation a million times better. The extra class I was going to take next Spring semester I can take this summer if I get accepted then I won't have to take 15 credits and I'll still graduate Fall '13! I am loving life right now! And even better, it gives me more motivation to do better! Not that I was worried about failing any of my classes. ;) The light at the end of the tunnel of school is beginning to glimmer. I'm almost done!

Valentine's Day

So this year for Valentine's Day I didn't tell Tyler not to do anything like I did last year but I didn't tell him he had to do anything either. I let him decide this time. I'll just say that he pulled through with flying colors! I had to work all day so it gave him plenty of time to get things planned after he was done with school. First thing he did for me was send me some beautiful white Calla Lillies (I don't know if I spelled that right), he knows I don't like roses. :) Then about 5 ish he dropped in the branch to say hi. He didn't stay long cuz he still had things to do. Anyway, he picked me up from work about 7 and took me home. He opened the door to our apartment and it was lined with candles, not real ones...that's a fire hazard to leave unattended, but it still got the job done. On the table in the kitchen he had two places set up with my favorite red square plates that we got for our wedding. He went to bought two champagne glasses, red candles, and some nice glass candlesticks. In front of my plate there was a little plastic fox standing on the table. This started last year with a little plastic squirrel...I see a tradition in the making. :) For dinner Tyler went and got my favorite things at Panda Express, sparkling cider, and chocolate pie for dessert. After we ate we went upstairs and on our bed he had scattered Captain America and Thor Valentine cards. It was super cute and, if you know Tyler, totally makes sense.

Don't I have the cutest, sweetest, most amazing husband of all time!? I think so. I'm glad I married him and get to spend eternity with my sweetheart! I love you Tyler Shumway! You're the best! :) :)

February 11, 2012

Special Delivery!!

Today at about 3 PM we welcomed a new addition into our home. Our new couch! :) It's wonderful, and takes up our entire living room pretty much. Totally worth it though. Here are a few pictures cuz I like to show off new things

This is the whole thing eating our living room. :) It made for a good compromise couch for us. Tyler wanted leather and I wanted micro-fiber (or something similar). As you can see this has black leather trim (for Tyler) and micro-fiber ish like cushions and pillows (for me).

Here's another angle.

Here's some detail on the cushion

Here's one of the pillows that have this cool pattern on them. Ignore the remote...probably should have moved that. Oh well.

Anyway this is our beautiful new couch. We pretty much love it!

February 7, 2012

We are ridiculous people...

So...Tyler and I have made this realization many times since we've been married, but events of yesterday made it obviously clear, we are ridiculous people. Here's what happened, but first I have to give a little background info. When we got married and moved into our apartment my parents gave us a loveseat that they weren't using anymore. My mom had it in the Music Room in their house when she taught piano so her students had a place to sit and wait. Well she hasn't taught piano at since I graduated from high school. Anyway we have this loveseat...which is fine if you're just sitting doing nothing. It is not well equipped for laying down, cuddling, haveing people over, etc. We've delt with it for the 9 months (almost) that we've been married because it was free and we were too poor to get something new. Well...we got our tax return back have some extra money so we went couch shopping. We weren't really looking for anything too fancy or big, just bigger than a love seat. We went to Downeast because I knew that had furniture and we found one we liked but it was a lighter color and we were a little worried about it getting dirty. So we went across the street to the Fisher Outlet. Then we found it...the perfect couch. We went home really fast and measured to make sure it would fit...and...it does!!! Barely...there's a chase on one end (it's kind of like a sectional but not...) and there's about a foot and a half gap between it and the TV stand. It's going to take up our entire living room (thus making us ridiculous people) but we both loved it so much that we couldn't say no to it. It's so much better than what we have now and it was such a good deal (Fisher's having their President's Day Sale) that we said "Why not?" plus we're hoping to move somewhere closer to campus over the summer and maybe wherever we go might have a bigger living room. We decided our apt is oddly shaped...it's very narrow. Anyway, we've been telling each other "We bought a new couch!" ever since we got home last night. We're both very excited about it. Fisher couldn't deliver it until Saturday so we don't quite have it yet but I will for sure post some pictures of our exciting new purchase so you can see just how awesome it is!

New Blog!

So I had to create another blog for one of my classes at school. It's a "professional blog" so it probably won't be the most exciting thing in the world. Right now it will probably just be posts for assignments and things. I don't really know what to do with it once my class is done...I guess I'll figure that out once we get to that point. You all can read it if you really want to, I guess, there's nothing on it right now though. Here's the link if you feel so inclined to visit.

What to do...

So as most of you probably know I've been planning on studying Human Resources at Utah State University. That has always been my plan, ever since I moved to Logan to go to school. Well yesterday I got some news that shattered that plan into a million non-repairable pieces. Apparently The Huntsman School of Business has decided to discontinue the HR major (along with a few others). There was no warning, no window of opportunity saying that it will stop as of a certain date...nothing...just GONE. Of course it's just my luck that this happens the SEMESTER before I finally declare. I'm in the last two classes I need to be admitted into the program...perfect right? Especially since one of those classes was the biggest pain to get into, seriously, I just attended my first official day as an enrolled student yesterday. Yeah good times. So, what do I do now? Well, I'm still going to do business because anything else would require starting over pretty much and after 3 years...I am NOT starting over again. I did some investigating last night to try and come up with a Plan B and this is what I came up with. I can take 4 more Econ classes and get a basic Econ degree and then 5 classes to minor in HR, which means only 9 more classes total until graduation, and the potential of possibly graduating next spring (if I play my cards right, do well, and the classes fall in just the right places). I have an appointment with my Undeclared Business advisor on Monday afternoon to see if this plan is possible and ultimately doable. If I can do it I'll still get to minor in HR...not quite as good but I don't have any other option. I don't see why it can't work. The requirements sheet I looked at says that Econ is good for those that want a dual major, but doesn't say that it HAS to be used as part of a dual major. That's good news, right?

January 8, 2012

Happy Sunday!

So today January 8, 2012 marked a momentous occasion in the Shumway home. Are you ready for this? We actually ate dinner at our kitchen table!!! Can you believe it!? We've had a table in our kitchen since we got married...but we only had one chair so we never eat at it. For Christmas my parents gave us a card table and folding chairs so we used one of those for the kitchen table (kinda ghetto I know but we're poor, and the table isn't really even ours, it's on loan from a friend's sibling.) It's just a little round table anyway so it's not like we can eat banquets on it but still it was nice to actually eat at a table instead of on the couch in the living room or on the living room floor (Tyler's preferred spot).

For this special event we tried out a new recipe that I found on my new favorite website Pinterest. It was Parmesan Honey Pork Roast. It sounds odd...parmesan cheese and honey? Really? But it was really tasty, and bonus it makes it's own gravy to serve over potatoes! (I have the recipe if you want it, I'll share it's really easy and goes in the crock pot) Tyler also made some delicious carrots to go with it, which for me to say that carrots are delicious means they are like epically delicious, I'm not usually a fan of carrots. I took a couple pictures cuz I was excited. Here they are!

Our first Christmas!

Here are some snap shots of our first Christmas together. It was a good weekend.

This is the Lego Black Pearl that Tyler gave me. It took me a long time to put together...I'm slow.

As we were taking our tree down we noticed that it had started sprouting at the top. It was pretty cool. We didn't really take any other pictures over Christmas cuz I'm bad with a camera and forget these things. But this is what went down.

First, we started on Christmas Eve. We drove down to my Grandma's house after I got off work and had the traditional dinner and cousin gift exchange. That was exciting. :) Then we drove back up to Logan to have our Christmas together. We got up at 6 AM and had all of our gifts open by 6:15. It was pretty quick. I got the Lego boat pictured above, an Aggie T-shirt, and best of all Black Diamond earrings with a matching necklace. (Yeah I have the greatest husband ever!) Tyler got a Lego Lightning Mcqueen with bonus Guido, a doctor kit (ya know prep for the future, I thought it was clever), some dinosaurs, a remote control helicopter, and the Zelda game. He got spoiled that's for sure! After a couple hours we thought we would drive down to Taylorsville (ish) to spend some time with Tyler's mom and siblings. There we got a book, collapsible mini garbage cans for the car, and knit gloves you can use with a touch screen phone (so cool!). Then we ate some breakfast and then went to church. After that we hung out for a little while then headed out to Tooele to see Tyler's dad and step mom. That was a good time too. I got a couple sweaters, and Tyler got some Hobo Gloves. After gifts we watched a movie and then just chilled the rest of the day. The next day (Monday) we went to do Christmas with my family. There we got some movies, I got a sewing machine, and Tyler got a ratchet set and some white shirts and black pants (the ones he had were from his mission and were looking pretty hammered). It was fun to see the nieces and nephews with their toys from Grandma and Grandpa. Little Dain got Mack (the semi from Cars) and carried that thing around the rest of the day. It was cute. Hunter on the other hand was sick and just laid on the floor and slept most of the day, poor guy, it was sad. All in all it was a great weekend.

As for New Years, we went to a party with some of Tyler's friends down in North Salt Lake, we played games, had food, watched a movie, and then lit a few fireworks. After those festivities we drove out to Tyler's dad's house to spend the night since his sister Charity and her husband Greg were flying in from New York the next morning. So we spent some time with them and had Christmas again! :) Four days of Christmas I'm ok with that. Anyway, they gave us both a pair of awesome slippers! They're so soft on the outside and then furry on the inside, so comfy! She also gave Tyler a subscription to a magazine. That was cool.

Now we're just hanging out waiting for next semester to start on Monday :( Not looking forward to it at all. This break has not been close to long enough...I don't want to go back yet. Oh well, ya do what ya gotta sometimes. I hope it goes well, it's not off to a very good start already...I'm still not fully registered. I'm still waitlisting one more class that I HAVE to get into or I'm stuck with nothing left to do cuz the rest of the classes require me to be declared first. Here's hoping I can get in, keep your fingers crossed!
