New Blog!

So I had to create another blog for one of my classes at school. It's a "professional blog" so it probably won't be the most exciting thing in the world. Right now it will probably just be posts for assignments and things. I don't really know what to do with it once my class is done...I guess I'll figure that out once we get to that point. You all can read it if you really want to, I guess, there's nothing on it right now though. Here's the link if you feel so inclined to visit.

What to do...

So as most of you probably know I've been planning on studying Human Resources at Utah State University. That has always been my plan, ever since I moved to Logan to go to school. Well yesterday I got some news that shattered that plan into a million non-repairable pieces. Apparently The Huntsman School of Business has decided to discontinue the HR major (along with a few others). There was no warning, no window of opportunity saying that it will stop as of a certain date...nothing...just GONE. Of course it's just my luck that this happens the SEMESTER before I finally declare. I'm in the last two classes I need to be admitted into the program...perfect right? Especially since one of those classes was the biggest pain to get into, seriously, I just attended my first official day as an enrolled student yesterday. Yeah good times. So, what do I do now? Well, I'm still going to do business because anything else would require starting over pretty much and after 3 years...I am NOT starting over again. I did some investigating last night to try and come up with a Plan B and this is what I came up with. I can take 4 more Econ classes and get a basic Econ degree and then 5 classes to minor in HR, which means only 9 more classes total until graduation, and the potential of possibly graduating next spring (if I play my cards right, do well, and the classes fall in just the right places). I have an appointment with my Undeclared Business advisor on Monday afternoon to see if this plan is possible and ultimately doable. If I can do it I'll still get to minor in HR...not quite as good but I don't have any other option. I don't see why it can't work. The requirements sheet I looked at says that Econ is good for those that want a dual major, but doesn't say that it HAS to be used as part of a dual major. That's good news, right?

Happy Sunday!

So today January 8, 2012 marked a momentous occasion in the Shumway home. Are you ready for this? We actually ate dinner at our kitchen table!!! Can you believe it!? We've had a table in our kitchen since we got married...but we only had one chair so we never eat at it. For Christmas my parents gave us a card table and folding chairs so we used one of those for the kitchen table (kinda ghetto I know but we're poor, and the table isn't really even ours, it's on loan from a friend's sibling.) It's just a little round table anyway so it's not like we can eat banquets on it but still it was nice to actually eat at a table instead of on the couch in the living room or on the living room floor (Tyler's preferred spot).

For this special event we tried out a new recipe that I found on my new favorite website Pinterest. It was Parmesan Honey Pork Roast. It sounds odd...parmesan cheese and honey? Really? But it was really tasty, and bonus it makes it's own gravy to serve over potatoes! (I have the recipe if you want it, I'll share it's really easy and goes in the crock pot) Tyler also made some delicious carrots to go with it, which for me to say that carrots are delicious means they are like epically delicious, I'm not usually a fan of carrots. I took a couple pictures cuz I was excited. Here they are!

Our first Christmas!

Here are some snap shots of our first Christmas together. It was a good weekend.

This is the Lego Black Pearl that Tyler gave me. It took me a long time to put together...I'm slow.

As we were taking our tree down we noticed that it had started sprouting at the top. It was pretty cool. We didn't really take any other pictures over Christmas cuz I'm bad with a camera and forget these things. But this is what went down.

First, we started on Christmas Eve. We drove down to my Grandma's house after I got off work and had the traditional dinner and cousin gift exchange. That was exciting. :) Then we drove back up to Logan to have our Christmas together. We got up at 6 AM and had all of our gifts open by 6:15. It was pretty quick. I got the Lego boat pictured above, an Aggie T-shirt, and best of all Black Diamond earrings with a matching necklace. (Yeah I have the greatest husband ever!) Tyler got a Lego Lightning Mcqueen with bonus Guido, a doctor kit (ya know prep for the future, I thought it was clever), some dinosaurs, a remote control helicopter, and the Zelda game. He got spoiled that's for sure! After a couple hours we thought we would drive down to Taylorsville (ish) to spend some time with Tyler's mom and siblings. There we got a book, collapsible mini garbage cans for the car, and knit gloves you can use with a touch screen phone (so cool!). Then we ate some breakfast and then went to church. After that we hung out for a little while then headed out to Tooele to see Tyler's dad and step mom. That was a good time too. I got a couple sweaters, and Tyler got some Hobo Gloves. After gifts we watched a movie and then just chilled the rest of the day. The next day (Monday) we went to do Christmas with my family. There we got some movies, I got a sewing machine, and Tyler got a ratchet set and some white shirts and black pants (the ones he had were from his mission and were looking pretty hammered). It was fun to see the nieces and nephews with their toys from Grandma and Grandpa. Little Dain got Mack (the semi from Cars) and carried that thing around the rest of the day. It was cute. Hunter on the other hand was sick and just laid on the floor and slept most of the day, poor guy, it was sad. All in all it was a great weekend.

As for New Years, we went to a party with some of Tyler's friends down in North Salt Lake, we played games, had food, watched a movie, and then lit a few fireworks. After those festivities we drove out to Tyler's dad's house to spend the night since his sister Charity and her husband Greg were flying in from New York the next morning. So we spent some time with them and had Christmas again! :) Four days of Christmas I'm ok with that. Anyway, they gave us both a pair of awesome slippers! They're so soft on the outside and then furry on the inside, so comfy! She also gave Tyler a subscription to a magazine. That was cool.

Now we're just hanging out waiting for next semester to start on Monday :( Not looking forward to it at all. This break has not been close to long enough...I don't want to go back yet. Oh well, ya do what ya gotta sometimes. I hope it goes well, it's not off to a very good start already...I'm still not fully registered. I'm still waitlisting one more class that I HAVE to get into or I'm stuck with nothing left to do cuz the rest of the classes require me to be declared first. Here's hoping I can get in, keep your fingers crossed!

It's that time of year again.

It seems like Christmas was just here...but nevertheless it's upon us once more. This time around it's especially exciting because it's mine and Tyler's first Christmas together! :) Such happy times. I'm so excited to see his face when he opens his presents (even though he's already guessed one...oh well I've guessed one of mine so I guess we're even). When I bought his present I felt like someone would approach me and say something along the lines of "It looks like your little boy is going to have a fun Christmas." Yeah...my "little boy" is nearly 25 years old and goes by the title of My Husband ;) and that is one reason why I love him. He's as much of a little kid as I am. It's wonderful. We have good times. Anyway, the picture above is our first Christmas tree together, isn't it pretty! I was going to compare to last years disaster of a tree...but...I can't find the picture :( Oh well I'll just tell you, it wasn't pretty. This years experience was much better as you can see. Plus WE got to find it, cut it, drag it back together. Fabulous! This year is bringing a lot of changes to my usual Christmas traditions...I'm excited though. Since we have 3 families to negotiate time with we get Christmas for two days instead of one. Christmas day will be spent with the Shumways, first with Tyler's mom and then later with his dad and step-mom. It should be fun. Then on Monday the 26th, since I won't have work, we'll do Christmas with the Coleman's. I'm excited to start our own Christmas traditions, which I'm sure will grow even more when we have kids in a few years. I'm glad I get to spend the Holidays with Tyler and our families. I have a feeling it's going to be a great year!

How time flies!

So...remember this?

And this?
How about this?

Well I remember. I can't believe we've hit 6 months already! It's been wonderful too! We had a great summer and now we've been busy with school. We're looking forward to Thanksgiving next week and then the Christmas season after that. We've had some good times and here are a few of them.

This was my birthday cake.

Yeah I think we love each other. :) My life is so great! I love Tyler with all of my heart. He's so sweet and good to me all the time. Here's to the last six months, the next six months, and the many many years to come!

I am Grateful

So as I'm sitting here waiting for Tyler's class to finish I thought, since it's THANKSGIVING (NOT Christmas yet --> for all the retail stores that ALREADY have their Christmas stuff out) I'll post a few things that I'm grateful for.

1) First off, and probably the most obvious...Tyler. He's the sweetest husband a girl could ever ask for. He makes me want to be better in every way. I'm so happy I have him in my life. I'm so glad he's my husband.

2) My family, all of them. They may be crazy most of the time but I still love them.

3) School. Yes I'm grateful for school even though it's not fun all the time...or most of the time. I'm still glad that I have the chance to get an education.

4) My job. I love the people I work with and how well we get along. It's a great place.

5) My Home, Logan. I love Logan. It may be freezing cold and snowy for about 8-9 months of the year but I love it here. Once we're done with Med School I'm hopeful that we can move back, and once again relive our Aggie days. :) I love being an Aggie!

There's more but I won't bore you with every little detail. You're welcome.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and eat lots and lots of food! It's the one day a year where you can give in to the glutton inside and not have to feel bad about it. ;) If I remember, which is highly unlikely, I might get some pictures of our first Thanksgiving together at the Grand America Hotel with the Shumways. I'm so excited! It should be a good time.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
